Decorate A Small Living Room: Save Space With This One Tip

You might think that tips for how to decorate a small living room are different from your typical small space living tips, but they’re not. It’s about working smarter to make your small space feel bigger and there are tricks to help you do just that.

I bet that you have side tables in your living room because most people have at least one, but have you ever thought of removing them and using something that will give your small living room more space? I mean who doesn’t want their small room to look bigger right?

That’s where a sofa table or sometimes known as a console table comes in. Now if you’ve never heard of one or aren’t sure how it will look in a space, I added a pic below of monday’s mood board to give you a visual (you’re welcome).

Decorate A Small Living Room Using A Sofa Table

Back to the sofa table. The beauty of them is that it really doesn’t matter what the sofa table looks like since it will sit between your sofa and a wall so no one will see it entirely.

Now if you’re intrigued and I’ve convinced to add one to your room, there are a couple of things to be mindful of when adding one to your space and they involve measuring. You guys know how I stay preaching about the importance of preparing for any decorating project or just purchasing something new for your room even if it’s just a sofa table.

Moving on…

Number one, you will have to make sure that the sofa table is tall enough so that the surface sits right below the back of your sofa. This will allow for the items you use to decorate it, to be visible. I mean the last thing you need is for your table lamp looking like it’s disappearing behind your sofa (not a good look!)

The second thing to remember is depth. You’ll need to go with something about 12 - 16 inches deep so that one it doesn’t take up too much room and two it allows just enough room to hold table lamps and other things you’ll need to style it up and make it all cute.

If you need help with figuring out how to style a sofa table on your own, check out my Styling 101 masterclass here for all the tips.

This tip comes especially handy if you’re one of those people who have a big bulky sofa. By swapping your side tables for a sofa table will not only give you more space, it will help your space look less cluttered.
