How To Make A Neutral Room Look Interesting

Neutral rooms don’t have to look boring.

If you know me, you know that I love me some color, but not everyone feels the same way and so I’m going to share some tips with you so that you can finally learn how to make a neutral room look interesting so that you can transform your neutral space into something cute.

How To Make A Neutral Room Look Interesting: Textures and Materials

The trick to making a neutral room look interesting is to break up the space by using different materials aka textures in the room.

Think about it for a second, imagine looking at an all beige room with nothing else. How is your eye suppose to focus on one thing? It can’t so you have to give it a reason to.

That’s where textures and materials come into play. There are so many to choose from, but here are a few to get your imagination going:

Textures

  • Velvet

  • Faux Fur

  • Suede

  • Leather

  • Linen

  • Cotton

  • Yarn

Materials

  • Wood (rattan, natural, oak, walnut, etc)

  • Metals (brass, gold, silver, etc)

  • Concrete

  • Brick

  • Stone

You can use these textures and materials in throw pillows, curtains, furniture, frames, mirrors and so much more.

How To Make A Neutral Room Look Interesting: Patterns

Now that I’ve given you one way to make a neutral room look interesting, let’s talk about the second way real quick. Patterns are my favorite way to make a room stand out.

Depending on your design style, there are so many pattern choices out there like stripes, florals, geometric, etc. The key here is to pick patterns that you love and mix them up.

Some ways you can use different patterns in your room are in a rug, pillow, curtain, throw, vase, plant pot, etc.

How To Make A Neutral Room Look Interesting: Mix It Up

There are so many different shades of neutral colors. I mean, have you been to the paint store lately? There are like 20+ versions of white, black, grey, brown and so on and so forth. It can be so overwhelming.

Let’s say that you’re going for a soft beige look, then go ahead and decorate your room using different neutral colors with patterns and textures. There’s no design rule out there that says that your room has to be in one shade of beige so go crazy. Wait I take it back! Don’t go too crazy that your room will look like a hot mess. Remember balance!
